Pilates Props
One of the most famous props is the reformer. I agree, it does sound like an old torture device from the inquisition, but it is actually a very versatile machine on which you can perform over 100 exercise types. In theory I’ve already shown you 100 props then. This machine is based around a moving chair with springs and pulleys attached. You use your own weight to get slim, saving energy, the environment and getting a lot out of your own body.
Another bigger prop is the Pilates Cadillac. While this does not sound like a torture instrument it sure looks like one! To make it sound like one too, people have known it also as “The Rack”, sounding like a spinoff of the popular movie, The Rock. Don’t worry though, it is another truly versatile work out machine. It was actually devised by the father of the Pilates method, Joseph Pilates. It is essentially a mash up of a lot of different workout machines giving you a 20 in 1 deal. On this baby you can practice over 80 exercises every day if you wish.
To combine the best of these equipments smart engineers have devised a way to join up the two machines. These are called Pilates combos. They essentially look like a Cadillac, but with a movable sitting space. If you have the time and space it is the ideal Pilates prop for anyone.
Pilates is great because it makes the most out of its props. Pilates chairs are very popular because they are small, but a whopping 75 exercises can be performed on them. These are not necessarily standing up exercises, they just use the construction of the chair to perform laying down exercises.
Ladder barrels are a welcome addition to a Pilates prop collection. They require substantially more space than the chairs do, but they do give you unique workout possibilities. As the name says, these are essentially ladders, with a barrel next to them. The barrel is for stretching purposes, while the ladder is for strengthening purposes mainly. With this prop, you do get the best of both worlds.
The Pilates spine corrector is the last prop I will show you. It shows Pilates’ dedication to spine workouts. It is designed to stretch your back and spine without danger and frustration. If you use the prop often you can get rid of a lot of back pains in no time at all.
